Landline and cell telephone numbers are selected using random-digit-dial methods. Landline respondents are chosen at random within each household on the basis of which member had the most recent birthday. Samples are weighted to correct for unequal selection probability, nonresponse, and double coverage of landline and cell users in the two sampling frames. They are also weighted to match the national demographics of gender, age, race, Hispanic ethnicity, education, region, population density, and phone status (cellphone only/landline only/both, and cellphone mostly).

In 2010, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese. Serving healthy snacks to children is important to providing good nutrition, supporting lifelong healthy eating habits, and helping to prevent costly and potentially-disabling diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity. Whole Soul Nutrition is excited about providing healthy choices for children to help them through their school day. The owners of Whole Soul Nutrition believe our children’s health should be at the forefront of everyday eating. As parents themselves, the owners know how hard it can be to juggle home, kids, careers, school, sports, etc. and still have to provide sound healthy snacks and meals for our families. In their commitment to providing natural nutrition, Whole Soul Nutrition has purposefully searched for healthy food products just for kids! Their selections are not only healthy but taste good and are the types of foods that kids love.

Together with Japan, and working in close partnership with our host governments, we will proactively move to prevent under nutrition from taking root, Gomez. It said to determine suitable methods of collaboration on nutrition, WFP has initiated discussions with Ghana and Sierra Leone, as well as with UN agencies and several Japanese partners including the Japan International Cooperation Agency, non-governmental organisations, and the private sector. It stated that in Sierra Leone, WFP is also partnering with the United Nations Population Fund on issues of health, well-being and nutritional status of adolescent girls and women particularly during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The statement said this financial package follows the Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development held in Japan in June, when WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin and Parliamentary Vice-Minister Abe reaffirmed the importance of adequate nutrition for mothers and children, and agreed to launch nutrition programmes in Africa. An estimated 165 million children suffer from stunting globally, and in sub-Saharan Africa a staggering 40 per cent of children under the age of five are stunted. Although stunting rates in Ghana average 23 per cent, in food-insecure areas, such as in the Northern Region, the rates are as high as 37 per cent.

Women drive nutrition store sales in Chennai
Dheeraj Rajamohan, manager of Gold’s Gym at Adyar attributes the rise in consumption of such supplements (allied with focused physical exercise) to the universal desire of both men and women for athletic bodies. “More women today are leading active lifestyles, participating in athletics, playing tennis, swimming and so on, and they cross all professions. In the end, everybody wants to look good,” says Rajamohan. He says sports nutrition supplements marketed here now also portray women bodybuilders on the packaging, a clear play at the growing women’s market.

Participants from the Sefwi Wiawso and Bibiani Government Hospitals, included clinical officers, pharmacists as well as nutrition, disease control, data officers and storekeepers attended the event. Mr. Emmanuel Badiena, Deputy Western Regional Nutrition Officer of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), said PLWA and TB patients were easily pre-disposed to malnutrition because HIV and TB put very high toll of energy requirement and other nutrients on them. He said malnourished PLWA and TB patients stood high risk of running down physically as a result of infections. Mr. Badiena said the workshop aimed at training health personnel to identify malnutrition among PLWA and TB patients, to enable them to appropriately counsel and support their clients. He said officials at health centres would educate PLWA who access anti-retroviral therapy and TB patients on the appropriate nutrition for them.

WFP welcomes Japan’s contribution of $1.5m to nutrition
Canned oranges and chocolate milk. Its hardly a feast, but dont tell that to the children for whom this meal makes all the difference. The experience of a food bank running a summer lunch program for needy children in rural Tennessee shows that more ways must be found to feed the millions of children who go hungry when schools let out. The Posts Eli Saslow recently told the story of a converted school bus that travels the hills of Appalachia in Tennessee to take food to needy children. It was a heart-rending portrait, made all the more poignant by the fact that the need it depicted exists in every part of the United States. A recent study by the nonprofit Feeding America ranked the District second in the nation for child food insecurity, defined as not having access at all times to enough food for healthy living. The group estimates that one in four children in the nation experiences food insecurity.
